Delhi Records Maximum Temparature Of 47.3°C; IMD Issues 'Orange Alert'

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert in Delhi following a severe heatwave, on June 6. The announcement has come after temperature in Delhi crossed the 47°C mark. Several parts of Delhi witnessed a temperature above 45°, with Mungeshpur topping the chart with 47.3°. Notably, a heat wave is announced when the temperature in a region crosses the 40°C mark.

“Orange” Alert In Delhi, Warning Of Severe Heatwave Conditions: IMD

Delhi was hit by a heatwave on May 13, with temperatures reaching 46 degrees Celsius (°C). The India Meteorological Department issued an "orange" alert, indicating the possibility of a severe heatwave on May 14. The maximum temperature in Delhi might reach 45°C to 47°C. Meteorologists predict some reprieve over the weekend, with a new western disturbance likely to drop the temperature to approximately 41°C starting May 16.

IMD Predicts Severe Heatwave In Delhi; Issues Orange Alert

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to touch 42 degrees Celsius on April 10. "The frequency of intense heatwave conditions will be higher in April as compared to March. We expect the heatwave conditions to continue till April 15 in some parts," stated an official. Notably, Delhi recorded a high temperature in 72 years in the first half of April.

Light Rain Lashes Delhi; Air Quality Remains 'Very Poor'

Delhi-NCR witnessed light showers in the morning on January 22. An 'Orange alert' has been issued for 19 districts of Madhya Pradesh and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail. "Light intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi-NCR", IMD tweeted. Meanwhile, AQI of Delhi remained in the 'very poor' category, with an AQI of 342. The minimum temperature in the national capital will rise 2-3 degrees Celsius.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Delhi & Warns Against Waterlogging

The meteorological department issued an orange alert in Delhi and also warned against the possibility of heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and disruption of traffic on September 22. Moreover, the IMD also issued a yellow alert for September 23, 25, 26. While a green alert has been issued for September 24. Notably, IMD's Safdarjung Observatory has recorded 1161.1 mm of rainfall this season than 1,156.6 mm of rainfall in 1975.

IMD Issues Red, Orange And Yellow Alert In Odisha's 21 Cities

Considering a depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining the Odisha coast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in seven districts of Odisha for the next 24 hours on September 12. Moreover, IMD also issued an orange alert in six districts and a yellow alert in eight districts. ''There are also chances of flash floods,'' said Umashankar Das, a scientist at IMD Bhubaneswar.
