Tamil Film 'Soorarai Pottru' Becomes Only Indian Movie In Oscar Race

Becoming a matter of pride for the Indian Cinema, Tamil film 'Soorarai Pottru' is in the race of 93rd Oscars out of 366 eligible films in the 'Best Picture' category. While the film is the only Indian movie to get shortlisted this year, the voting is due to take during March 5-10, followed by an official announcement on March 15. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film is loosely based on Air Deccan's founder GR Gopinath.

Vidya Balan-starrer Natkhat has officially entered the race for the upcoming Oscars in the Best Short Film category. India's First Academy Award Winner Costume Designer Bhanu Athaiya Dies

India's first-ever Oscar winner Bhanu Athaiya passed away at 91 on October 15. The costume designer had won Oscar for her work in Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi'. However, she had later returned the award to the Academy in 2012. The designer made her debut in Guru Dutt's 'C.I.D.' in 1956. Besides Oscar, the designer had won two National Awards as well. Athaiya suffered from brain tumour, and was paralysed since 2012.
