Wahengbam Shakhi Dev, an 87-year-old woman was taken under the care of the district health society on humanitarian grounds after she was abandoned by her family on being tested positive for Covid-19. Hailing from Manipur's Kaching district, she was admitted to a temporary isolation ward-cum-Covid care center on June 16. Besides, she was barely able to walk due to low oxygen when the staff found her.
Shree Paras Hospital in Agra is being sealed after 22 people died from oxygen shortage. The decision came after a video of the hospital owner saying to stop oxygen supply as part of a mock drill surfaced. In the video, the doctor admitted that 22 people died after he shut off the oxygen supply for five minutes. The District administration also assured to book the hospital under the Epidemic Act.

The Delhi government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of Covid-19 patients who died due to oxygen shortage in hospitals. A committee of six doctors has been formed to prepare a criteria framework for the compensation. The panel will also prepare a weekly report after examining documents related to oxygen supply, stock and storage of the hospitals concerned.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association on May 10 urged the Mt Everest climbers to bring back the empty oxygen cylinders for reuse. Experiencing the second COVID wave, Nepal is facing acute shortage of oxygen and cylinders. It is estimated that climbers and their Sherpa guides have carried nearly 3,500 oxygen cylinders during April- May. Reportedly, the cylinders are either left after the expeditions or they get buried under in avalanches.
The Supreme Court has formed a 12-member national task force to bring transparency in oxygen allocation in the country. The top court dictated they get to work immediately and streamline the supply. Reportedly, the task force will allocate oxygen to the entire country based on the need for availability and distribution. Provisioning to submit its recommendations, the court fixed the initial tenure of task force to six months.

Amid burgeoning oxygen crisis in India, Hollywood actor James McAvoy in a video posted on social media asked his fans and followers to donate to India. In the video, McAvoy shared a crowd funding link on Instagram to help purchase oxygen concentrators and other medical supplies to India, immediately. Posting 'India needs help...donate what you can if you can,' he urged to make donations to the Daivik foundation.

As the Delhi is getting choked due to an acute shortage of oxygen, the Supreme Court has told the Centre to resolve this dire problem before the end of May 3. The government has also been ordered to prepare an emergency buffer stock for oxygen in four days and ensure immediate availability if the need arises. Besides, the court has directed all hospitals to admit patients even without identity-proof.
Two Delhi-based hospitals Madhukar Rainbow Children's Hospital in Malviya Nagar and Triton Hospital in Kalkaji have sent desperate SOS calls to authorities over their depleting oxygen stocks. The UP Pollution Control Board has launched ‘Nivesh Mitra Portal’ to invite oxygen manufacturers for creating oxygen production facility.
