Anushka Kumari (21) created history as she became the youngest sarpanch in Bihar. Reportedly, she won from Kushahar Panchayat of Sheohar block. Anushka said that she contested in the local panchayat elections as her village faces various problems, and she wants to "end corruption". Furthermore, she said, "I will never break the trust of the people of the panchayat." Besides, she owns a Bachelor's degree in History Honors from Bengaluru. 

Candidates contesting in UP's Panchayat elections have involved even stray dogs in their campaigning. Reportedly, two candidates from Rae Bareli and Ballia districts stuck their posters and pamphlets on stray dogs and let them roam around. In a bizarre experiment, Umrane villlage of Maharastra's Nashik district elected its sarpanch through an auction process. While the base price for the bid was kept at Rs 1.11 crore, a local, Vishwasrao Devare, won it by quoting Rs 2.05 crore against some development works.
