21 Yr Old Anushka Kumari Becomes Youngest Sarpanch In India: Bihar

Anushka Kumari (21) created history as she became the youngest sarpanch in Bihar. Reportedly, she won from Kushahar Panchayat of Sheohar block. Anushka said that she contested in the local panchayat elections as her village faces various problems, and she wants to "end corruption". Furthermore, she said, "I will never break the trust of the people of the panchayat." Besides, she owns a Bachelor's degree in History Honors from Bengaluru.

First Phase Of Bihar Panchayat Elections 2021 Kicks Off

Bihar's first phase of panchayat elections begun on September 24 and voting will be conducted in 12 blocks covering ten districts from 7 AM to 5 PM. About 15,328 candidates filed nomination papers but only 858 have been elected unopposed. Ironically, no one filed nomination papers for 72 posts. The counting of votes will be held in the district headquarters. The second phase of voting will start on September 30.

After Serving As Sweeper, Kerala Woman Wins Local Body Polls

After being a sweeper at Kollam's Pathanapuram District Panchayat office for 10 years, 46-year-old A Anandavalli became the block Panchayat President. The Dalit woman who contested on a Communist Party of India (Marxist) ticket, won the recently concluded local body polls by 654 votes. Stating that she has responsibilities now, Anandavalli said, “Only my party can do such things. I am really indebted to it”.

Maharashtra Village Auctions Sarpanch Post; Winner Bids Rs 2.05 Cr

In a bizarre experiment, Umrane villlage of Maharastra's Nashik district elected its sarpanch through an auction process. While the base price for the bid was kept at Rs 1.11 crore, a local, Vishwasrao Devare, won it by quoting Rs 2.05 crore against some development works.
