The patient was struggling to breathe after the recent incidents of wildfires in Kootenays which worsened her asthma, media reports said. Moreover, Kootenays has seen over 1,600 wildfires in the year 2021, leading to several deaths due to heatwaves, according to the BC Wildfire Services report.
