Parliament Panel Adopts Report On Criminal Laws
A parliamentary committee on home affairs on Monday adopted three reports on bills to replace the existing criminal laws with some opposition members submitting dissent notes, sources said. The Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, chaired by BJP member Brij Lal, met on Monday, nearly 10 days after members had sought additional time to study the draft reports circulated late last month.

Parliamentary Panel Suggests Removal Of "Unhistorical" Chapters From Books

SC Suggested Panel Member Sainath Supports Farmers' Demand
Journalist P Sainath, whose name has been suggested by the Supreme Court for the panel to look upon the farmers' protests, said that the new laws are deeply flawed. Sainath has clarified that he will not be a part of the panel until the government answers a series of questions asked by him. Moreover, he has extended his support towards the farmers' demand for repealing the laws.

Joint Committee Of Parliament To Question Telcos and Cab Aggregators
Following the trail of the social media companies, the telecom operators and cab aggregators will also be questioned by the Joint Committee of Parliament on 'Data Protection Bill'. While Jio has been summoned on November 4, Airtel and Truecaller will appear on November 6. Reportedly, the panel will question Ola and Uber on November 5. The committee is looking into data collection issues and intends to protect individuals' information.

Twitter Appears Before Joint Committee; Committee Says Answers By Twitter "Inadequate"
The joint committee of parliament on Data Protection Bill on October 28 questioned the representatives from Twitter on how they showed Ladakh as a part of China. However, the committee concluded that the answers were not satisfactory and "inadequate". The committee chairman Meenakshi Lekhi said that she is aware of the sensitivities, it is "a matter of India's sovereignty and integrity." She added the act "amounts to a criminal offence."
