Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on September 22, demanded that the women's reservation bill be implemented immediately and alleged that the government does not want to do this while distracting from the demand for caste census. The Women's Reservation Bill is a good thing, but two "footnotes" of census and delimitation have been attached, Gandhi told a press conference here a day after the Women's reservation bill was passed by Parliament.

Women's Reservation Bill Passed In Lok Sabha With 455 Votes
The Women's Reservation Bill, introduced in the special parliament session by the Union Law Minister, finally was passed in the Lok Sabha, on September 20. The bill, aiming to provide 33% quota to women belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and other Backward Class in the Lok Sabha and assembly seats, has been passed with 455 MPs votes. The bill now will be tabled in Rajya Sabha.

After a comeback in the Lok Sabha, the opposition has nominated former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the parliamentary standing committee defence of the opposition. Congress MP Amar Singh too has been nominated to the committee, according to a Lok Sabha bulletin. Amit Shah Tables 3 Bill In Monsoon Parliament Session
Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday tabled bills to replace the British-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act and to provide for capital punishment for mob lynching, sexual assaults on minors, 20-year imprisonment for gang rape besides repeal of sedition offence.
