V Muraleedharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, informed Rajya Sabha that the Indian government will soon launch e-passports for the citizens of India. The e-passports will come an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and an antenna as inlay in the back cover, said Muraleedharan. He further stated that the launch will be made during 2022-23. The testing process has reportedly been started using sample chips.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel apprehended a man by the name Sushil Kumar who tried to board a plane with a "forged" visa, on March 23. The incident took place in the Terminal III of Indira Gandhi International Airport when the man reportedly created suspicion with the manner he was moving. Kumar attempted to board an Air India flight to Paris. He was then handed over to Delhi police.

Union former P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram will get a new passport with 13-year passport validity. The Madras HC bench led by Justice M Govindaraj asked the Regional Passport Authority (RPA) to issue the passport. He allowed a writ petition from Karti, dismissing petition ordered dated April 8. 2021 and August 24, 2021, of the RPA, which turned down Karti's plea for passport valid for 10 years.

Afghanistan is set to commence its passport issuing process from December 6 for another 14 provinces, said the passport department officials at the Government Media and Information Center. In a bizarre incident, Mithun Babu from Kerala's Wayanad received an original passport with his order of a 'passport cover' by Amazon. The incident happened on November 1. Babu contacted the customer care of Amazon but didn't get the solution. Eventually, he ''surrendered the passport'' to the police. Reportedly, the company sent the passport of its last customer who had mistakenly returned it with his order from Thrissur.

The Indian Post has rolled out a new facility of passport registration and passport availability at the nearest Post office which was first carried out at various passport Seva Kendra. For availing of the facility, the applicant needs to visit the post office's Common Service Centers or CSS. It will be mandatory for all applicants to be present physically under the new scheme.

The government has now simplified the process of issuing Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards. According to the new rule, an individual registered as an OCI cardholder after turning 20 does not need a new card on the issue of a fresh passport. Notably, the old rule required the re-issuing of passports after an individual turns 50 citing facial changes due to old age.
