Issue Is 'Serious If Newspaper Reports Are Correct': SC On Pegasus Row

After three petitions, including one by the Editors' Guild of India, were filed against the Pegasus issue. The SC said on August 5, that the matter is "serious if newspaper reports are correct". The two-member bench asked the petitioners to submit a copy of their petition to the government as the Centre has to present a hearing on August 10. "Truth has to come out", the petition stated.

Monsoon Session May Be Curtailed Due To Pegasus Row

The government may shorten the Monsoon Session that was to end on August 13, citing the Pegasus turmoil by the opposition for nine consecutive sessions or an impending COVID-19 menace, said sources on July 30. “The government is ready to discuss every people-related issue in Parliament, but the Opposition does not want that," a minister said. He also assured that the government will initiate more efforts for smooth functioning.

Journalists Seek Probe Against Pegasus Scandal; SC To Hear Plea

The Supreme Court said that it will hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by senior journalists N Ram and Sashi Kumar to probe the Israeli Spyware Pegasus scandal. The petition was followed by reports that said that the spyware was used to snoop on several politicians, journalists, and activists. The issue was tabled by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal on July 30 to Chief Justice N V Ramana.

Pegasus: Spyware Reportedly Used To Snoop On Journalists, Officials

According to French Media nonprofit, Forbidden Stories and Amnesty International, Pegasus spyware that is sold by Israel's NSO Group is being used to spy on several Indians citizens including Cabinet ministers, three opposition leaders, a Constitutional authority, government officials, scientists, and 40 journalists.
