Indian Refineries To Work With Govt To Seal 'Wise' Crude Oil Deals

With local gasoline and gasohol prices rising to record highs in India's worst power crisis, the nation wants to redouble efforts to buy crude oil wisely. Hence, India is forming a group bringing together state and private refiners to seek better crude import deals. India also asked the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and its allies OPEC+, to boost output to bring down global oil prices.

Diesel Prices Rise By 20 Paise; No Concession On Tax Rates Will Be Allowed, Says Govt

Diesel rates were first hiked by 20-22 paise on September 24 after July 15. Surging global crude oil rates is deemed to be the reason for a cause in the increase in Diesel prices. Meanwhile, petrol prices remain constant for the 19 days straight. Despite the surge in the prices, the Centre stated that no concession on tax rates for fuel should be expected in the near future.

Centre Is Likely To Impose GST Over Petrol, Diesel

Amid the fuel prices has skyrocketed in India, a ministerial panel headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will meet on September 15 to decide whether petroleum products should be considered under GST. Reportedly, the panel needs the approval of three-fourths of the panel to pass the proposal at the request of an Indian court. Moreover, it may extend the concessions on some drugs to provide relief to COVID-19 patients.

Indians Pay 73% More For Petrol Despite Fall In Crude Oil Prices

As per reports, Indians are paying 73% more for petrol despite a fall in crude oil prices by 23% in the last 13 years. Currently, the prices of petrol in Delhi stands at an all-time high of Rs 87.60 per litre, which was Rs 50.62 in 2008. Auto industry expert Avik Chattopadhyay said, "This is an outcome of the following reasons....whenever other sources fail, fuel is taxed to cover-up".
