IIT Kanpur PhD Student Dies By Suicide In Hostel Room
A PhD student from IIT Kanpur was found dead in his hostel room, on September 6. The incident reportedly came to light after Prasant Singh, the student, locked himself inside the room and didn’t step out. When the security forced entry into the room, Singh was found hanging from the ceiling, with the help of a bed sheet. His body was taken to a Mortuary, and further investigation is underway.

The admissions for PhD courses at IIM Kashipur is now open. The institute follows international standards and the areas of specialisation it offers include, Business Communication, Economics, Finance and Accounting, and more. UGC Removes PhD Qualification To Apply For Assistant Professor Jobs
In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Grants Commission (UGC) the apex body of Higher Education in India, has allowed the candidates to apply for Assistant Professor jobs without having a PhD till July 2023. UGC removed the mandatory requirement that came into effect in 2018 through an amendment. However, candidates having a postgraduate degree must have cleared the National Eligibility Test to apply for the post.

Centre To Postpone Making PhD Minimum Criteria For Asst Professor Recruitment
In consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the central government has decided to put a pause to making Ph.D. the minimum requirement for assistant-professor recruitment this year. “To reclaim his honor” through a petition, a Ph.D. scholar, Praveen Kumar is walking 200 km from UP's Saharanpur to Delhi's SC. "Terrorist. Go to Pakistan" was written on Kumar's door even after ATS found his name inappropriately on the list of thousands of people who were supposedly converted to Islam by two Delhi-based Muslim clerics. “I want the country to know what I am going through,” he said.

MPhil, PhD Scholars Get Six Months Extension To Submit Thesis
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has postponed the last date for submission of thesis by MPhil and PhD students by six months. The decision was taken due to the long closure of universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. While keeping the 5-year tenure of fellowship for PhD and MPhil intact, the students have been allowed to submit thesis till June 30. Earlier, the commission had given the relaxations till December 31.
