After Vedanta-Foxconn, Fintech PhonePe Also Decides To Move From Maharashtra

After the Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor project, the Fintech app PhonePe has also decided to move from Maharashtra. In a public notice issued on September 22, the Maharashtra government notified that the PhonePe office in Mumbai will be shifted to Karnataka. Phonepe shifting its Mumbai office to Bengaluru comes as another setback to the ruling Sena-BJP government. Notably, Vedanta has decided to shift its headquarters to Gujarat.

'Your Mom Would Be Ashamed Of You': PhonePE CEO To 'Bulli Bai' App Creators

As the matter came to light that Muslim women are being auctioned on a dodgy app namely ''Bulli Bai'', PhonePe CEO Sameer Nigam condemned the incident and criticised the developer on Twitter. ''App Creators should be put behind bars for life...Your own mothers would be ashamed of having given birth to you today,'' wrote Nigam. Reportedly, the creator of the app, a 21-year-old Bengaluru man has been detained.

PhonePe To Litigate BharatPe Again Over Usage Of 'Pe' Suffix

PhonePe, which is owned by Flipkart, claims to hold the 'Pe' suffix as part of its registered brand. The business has requested an injunction to prevent BharatPe's parent company, Resilient Innovations Pvt. Ltd, from "misusing" the suffix. PhonePe is anticipated to launch a new lawsuit soon. “We will continue to strongly defend any legal action that PhonePe threatens to institute against us," stated BharatPe spokesperson.

PhonePe Sues Rival BharatPe Over The 'Pe' Suffix In 'PostPe'

PhonePe, which is owned by Flipkart, has sued rival BharatPe in court for recently released 'buy now pay later' product, 'PostPe,' which uses the 'Pe' suffix. The business has filed an injunction with the Bombay high court to prevent Resilient Innovations Pvt. Ltd. from abusing its brand 'PhonePe.' This comes four months after PhonePe dropped its injunction case against BharatPe on an identical matter.

PhonePe Imposes Processing Fee On Mobile Bills Above Rs 50

In the latest development, the online payment application PhonePe has announced that it'll now charge processing fees per transaction on mobile recharges above Rs 50. Reportedly, a user has to pay Rs 1 on the recharge between Rs 50-100 and Rs 2 on recharges above Rs 100. ''As a part of the experiment, a majority of users are either not paying anything or paying Re 1,'' said PhonePe.

Adani Group To Launch Digital Payment Platform

Adani Group has decided to launch a ''super app'' to rival companies like PhonePe, Paytm, GooglePay, Tata, and Reliance. Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani said ''It took less than 30 minutes for me to decide that we must become a player in this space'' as he saw the mockup of the app in July 2021. However, the launch date is yet to be announced by the group.

PhonePe Tops Among UPI Apps; Clocks 42% Of Overall Jan Transactions

With a 7% hike, over 968.7 million UPI transactions were done through digital payment app PhonePe in January. The app, leaving behind its competitor Google Pay, processed a total value of Rs 1.92 trillion. Moreover, 42% of the total Unified Payments Infrastructure (UPI)  transactions were made through the app. However, the transactions on Google Pay showed a slight decline processing 853.5 million (37%) UPI transactions.

Google Pay, PhonePe Account For 81% Of Total UPI Transactions In Oct

PhonePe Logs Most Number Of Digital Transactions; Surpasses Google Pay

Walmart-backed digital wallet platform PhonePe has recorded the most number of transactions in October, overtaking Google Pay. PhonePe logged 835 million transactions, which were 15 million higher than Google Pay (820 million). Sameer Nigam, CEO of PhonePe, mentioned that their goal is to make digital payments "a way of life" for Indians and added "Our next target is to cross 500 million registered users by December 2022."
