Karnataka HC Issues Orders, Lists Plea Of Aaj Tak Anchor To Sep 19

The Karnataka Hight Court on September 15 turned down the request by Aaj Tak TV news anchor Sudhir Chaudhary in which the journalist had requested to quash the FIR registered against him by Bengaluru police. However, the court said that it will hear the matter on Tuesday September 19 and told the state government to not take any "preciptiative action."

Delhi HC Issues Summon To BBC Over PM Modi Documentary

The matter of BBC's controversial documentary on "PM Narendra Modi" reached the Delhi HC. The court issued a summon to the BBC after a NGO filed a defamation case, saying the documentary casts a slur on the reputation of India. In the plea, the NGO's lawyer said, " documentary makes defamatory imputation and cast a slur on the reputation of the country." Reacting to it, HC issued summon orders.

SC Agrees To Review Plea Against Misuse Of Central Agencies

The Supreme Court agreed to list the petition filed by opposition parties, alleging arbitrary use of the Central agencies for probe and conspiracy against non-BJP parties.  The Apex Court bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud adjourned the hearing for April 5. The plea was filed by 14 opposition parties, led by Congress. The parties are seeking pre- and post-arrest guidelines to be followed by agencies like CBI, ED.

Delhi HC Issues Notice To ED Regarding Plea Of Satyendar Jain

SC Issues Notice To Central Govt Regarding Demands Of Evacuated Ukraine Students

The Supreme Court reviewed a bunch of pleas filed by the evacuated Indians studying medicine in Ukraine and issued notice to the Central Government. On August 26, the Apex Court bench led by Justice Hemant Gupta, directed government to file reply to the demands of students, seeking permission to continue medicine studies in India, as Ukraine is a war-hit region after Ukraine invasion. The matter has been listed in September.

Delhi HC Dismisses PIL Sought To Halt SpiceJet's Operations Due To 'Safety Concerns'

Delhi High Court denied a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that asked the court to order SpiceJet Ltd to cease all flight operations in light of recent safety problems the low-cost carrier has encountered. After determining that there was no basis to admit the petition, a division bench declined to hear it. According to PIL filed, airline should suspend operations to avoid a major accident that might endanger lives of people.

Delhi HC Quashes Plea Against Conviction In POCSO Act For Raping Minor Girl In Her House

Delhi High Court on July 13 rejected a plea against a conviction and punishment under the POCSO Act for raping a young girl in her home in 2014. The High Court found that the appellant had exploited and breached the victim's parents' trust by taking on the role of guardian in their absence. In June 2021, the trial court sentenced him to life in prison for at least 14 years.
