Won't Levy Charges On UPI Transactions, Confirms Union Finance Ministry

In a major relief to UPI users, the Union Finance Ministry confirmed not to levy any charges on UPI transactions in India. On the evening of August 21, the ministry tweeted, " There is no consideration in Govt to levy any charges for UPI services." The clarification came after there were rumours that UPI transactions will now be chargeable, imposed by the Modi-led government.

Assam Govt Welcomes Centre's Decision Of AFSPA Withdrawal

Assam CM Hemant Biswa welcomed the decision of the Central Government to reduce disturbed region stretch in the state. Biswa said, "I whole-heartedly welcome the decision of PM Narendra Modi to withdraw AFSPA from all areas of Assam barring nine districts and one sub-division". With this, approximately 60% of the state will be free from AFSPA's jurisdiction. Notably AFSPA is in force since 1990 in Assam.
