Google Celebrates 113th Birthday Of Balamani Amma, 'Grandmother Of Malayalam Literature', With Doodle

Google commemorated the 113th birthday of Balamani Amma, a legendary Indian poet regarded as the "Grandmother of Malayalam Literature," with a special Doodle on July 19. Balamani Amma received various awards for her poetry, including the Saraswati Samman, the country's most prestigious literary award, and the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor in India. Amma wrote over 20 poetry, prose, and translation anthologies.

Women Activist Kamla Bhasin Dies At 75

Kamla Bhasin, a renowned feminist who fought and worked for gender-related issues for decades in India and South Asian nations, died at the age of 75 on September 25. Delhi's Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, activist Harsh Mander and Prasant Bhushan have expressed their condolences on Twitter. Ms. Bhasin, a poet and author of gender related books accomplished the "Laadli Life Time Achievement Award" for her work in 2017.

US' Amanda Gorman Becomes First Poet To Feature On Vogue Magazine's Cover

American poet-cum-activist Amanda Gorman etched her name in history as she became the first poet to be featured on the cover of Vogue magazine. The 23-year-old wrote on Instagram, "I am eternally grateful and do not expect to be the last- for what is poetry if not beauty?" She came to the limelight after reading her poem "The Hill We Climb" at Joe Biden's presidential inauguration in January.

Poland: Wroclaw City Names Square After Poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shared his proud moment on October 26 as a square in Poland's Wroclaw was named after his father and late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Sharing a photograph of the square's signboard on Twitter, Amitabh said, "There could not have been a more apt blessing on Dushhera than this." Earlier in July, the University of Wroclaw students paid tribute to Harivansh Rai Bachchan by reciting his poem 'Madhushala'.
