The All India Congress Committee (AICC) issued an official notification regarding the Congress presidential elections. On September 22, the AICC issued the notification, which mentioned the nomination process to begin on September 23-September 30. CPI-M leader and former MP Shivaji Patnaik passed away on May 23. The 92-years-old, and was admitted to a private hospital, after the potassium level in his blood dropped. The news of Patnaik's demise was confirmed by CPI-M Secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik. Highlighting Shivaji's political career, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhubaneswar in 1977, 1989, and 1991. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.
