CPI-M Leader Shivaji Patnaik Passes Away At 92
CPI-M leader and former MP Shivaji Patnaik passed away on May 23. The 92-years-old, and was admitted to a private hospital, after the potassium level in his blood dropped. The news of Patnaik's demise was confirmed by CPI-M Secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik. Highlighting Shivaji's political career, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhubaneswar in 1977, 1989, and 1991. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.

BJP Crosses 100 Mark In Rajya Sabha Seat, 1st Since 1988
BJP crosses 100 seat mark in the Rajya Sabha with majority of the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling party. With this, since 1988, no party has crossed the mark, making BJP the first one to do so. Furthermore, while BJP's leaders are rising in Rajya Sabha, the MPs of Congress and other political parties are declining. Notably, with the reducing MPs, Congress might lose its opposition status soon.

Former Congress Leader RPN Singh Joins BJP Ahead Of UP Assembly Polls
Former Congress leader RPN Singh joined BJP on January 25, ahead of the UP Assembly elections 2022. After joining BJP at the party headquarters, RPN Singh said, "Now I will work as Karyakarta, towards fulfilling PM Modi's dream for India." Earlier, RPN Singh resigned from Congress, saying it is not the same party when he joined 32 years back, as ideologies have changed.

Owaisi Slams Political Parties, Claims Injustice To Muslims
Ahead of the UP elections, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on January 7, has slammed all political parties of state for not working for the upliftment of Muslims. "There has been injustice with the Muslims of UP. The political parties kept gaining Muslims votes by appeasement," said Owaisi. The change has to come and we'll show this report to the people, he added. Notably, UP election polls are scheduled this year.

EC Registers 'Ikkjutt Jammu' As New Political Party: J&K
The Election Commission of India registered ''Ikkjutt Jammu'' as a new political party in Jammu and Kashmir, said the party chief Ankur Sharma. The EC gave its approval to the party on December 29, as per PTI. Reportedly, Ikkjutt Jammu demands separate Jammu statehood. ''Recognition of Ikkjutt Jammu...has come at a critical point in the history of Jammu,'' added Sharma.

SKM Farmer Union Is Not Contesting Punjab Election: Rakesh Tikait
The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha leader Rakesh Tikait, on December 26, denied to contest any election. Addressing the media, the Farmer leader said, the SKM is not going to contest elections in Punjab and it's all rumour. When asked about the launch of Political front by Kisan Union, Rakesh Tikait said, they have no idea and will comment about it after a meeting, scheduled on January 15.

Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh To Launch Own Party Before Poll
In the biggest development of Punjab politics, former CM Amarinder Singh, who recently left the Congress on October 19, announced to launch his own party before the 2022 assembly election. Amarinder further said that he's ready to ally with like-minded parties. However, him joining BJP is unlikely, owing to the farmers' issue. ''The Battle for Punjab is on. Will soon announce the launch of my own political party,'' said Singh.

Tamil Nadu Poll Body Announces Dates For Local Body Election
The Tamil Nadu Election Commissioner on September 13 announced that the rural local body election will be held in nine newly constituted districts on October 6 and 9. Candidates can file their nominations between September 15-22 and can also withdraw nominations by September 25. "Don't Be Used For Political Agenda," Says Sanjeev Balyan To Farmers
Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan stated that farmers' protests against Central Agriculture Laws have turned political. He said, "farmers will protest against BJP in UP & Punjab. Rajinikanth To Launch Political Party In January; Names Officials
Superstar Rajinikanth has announced that his new party will be launched in January 2021 ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls. With quotes "Now Or Never" and "Change, Let Us Change Everything", the veteran actor has announced that the launch date would be revealed by the end of December.
