CPI-M Leader Shivaji Patnaik Passes Away At 92

CPI-M leader and former MP Shivaji Patnaik passed away on May 23. The 92-years-old, and was admitted to a private hospital, after the potassium level in his blood dropped. The news of Patnaik's demise was confirmed by CPI-M Secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik. Highlighting Shivaji's political career, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bhubaneswar in 1977, 1989, and 1991. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.

BJP Crosses 100 Mark In Rajya Sabha Seat, 1st Since 1988

BJP crosses 100 seat mark in the Rajya Sabha with majority of the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling party. With this, since 1988, no party has crossed the mark, making BJP the first one to do so.  Furthermore, while BJP's leaders are rising in Rajya Sabha, the MPs of Congress and other political parties are declining. Notably, with the reducing MPs, Congress might lose its opposition status soon.

After joining BJP at the party headquarters, RPN Singh said, "Now I will work as Karyakarta, towards fulfilling PM Modi's dream for India." Earlier, RPN Singh resigned from Congress, saying it is not the same party when he joined 32 years back, as ideologies have changed.

Owaisi Slams Political Parties, Claims Injustice To Muslims

Ahead of the UP elections, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on January 7, has slammed all political parties of state for not working for the upliftment of Muslims. "There has been injustice with the Muslims of UP. The political parties kept gaining Muslims votes by appeasement," said Owaisi. EC Registers 'Ikkjutt Jammu' As New Political Party: J&K

The Election Commission of India registered ''Ikkjutt Jammu'' as a new political party in Jammu and Kashmir, said the party chief Ankur Sharma. The EC gave its approval to the party on December  29, as per PTI. Reportedly, Ikkjutt Jammu demands separate Jammu statehood. ''Recognition of Ikkjutt Jammu...has come at a critical point in the history of Jammu,'' added Sharma.

Tamil Nadu Poll Body Announces Dates For Local Body Election

The Tamil Nadu Election Commissioner on September 13 announced that the rural local body election will be held in nine newly constituted districts on October 6 and 9.
