SC Issues Notice To Bengal Govt, Police In Post-Poll Violence Case

Taking up the Bengal post-poll violence case, the Supreme Court on May 25 sought responses from the state government and police. Demanding counter affidavits from aforementioned over their alleged inaction in curbing the violence, the court scheduled next hearing in second week of June. While the petitioner alleged the police for protecting TMC workers, its counsel requested the court to make NCW, NHRC and NCPCR party to the petition.

Bengal Police Rubbishes Rape Reports Of Two Women, Calls It Fake News

The West Bengal Police on May 5 said viral social media posts circulated by "a specific political party", claiming rape of two women, are "fake news". The statement came amid the BJP's allegation that its party workers were being targetted, molested and even raped in the state. Meanwhile, the official said the police have investigated the news and even BJP leaders in the areas "are not aware of such incidents".
