Maharashtra Minister Orders Probe In Mumbai Power Outage Incident

Nitin Raut, the Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut, on February 27, ordered a high level inquiry in 18 hours long power outage in Mumbai.  After 2008, this was longest power failure in Mumbai, putting Mumbai people in trouble. "I have taken this matter very seriously and have ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty in this inquiry", said Raut.

India's Power Consumption Grew By 1.83% In Sept Than Last Year

After India's power consumption demand got affected by the COVID-19's second wave in April, the data released by the power ministry shows a gradual rise in consumption in September at 1.83% to 114.49 billion units (BU) from 112.43 BU, comparing to the last year. It's expected to improve further if the third wave doesn't strike. However, owing to the heavy rains the demand remained subdued, said experts.

India's Demand In Power Consumption Up By 19% For 1st Fortnight Of May

Recent Union power ministry data has showed a 19% spike in India's power consumption as compared to last year. The power consumption in first fortnight of May 2020 was 43.55 Billion Units which rose to 51.67 Billion Units in May 2021. Citing lockdown-led dip in power consumption in 2020, the ministry said that the significant recovery is due country's industrial and commercial demand for electricity picking up.

Union Power Ministry served a notice to Jharkhand, asking to pay power supply dues of Rs 5,600 crore to Damodar Valley Corporation. It stated that JBVNL had been irregular in paying the power bills. However, it suggested that Jharkhand can “avail a loan under the Atmanirbhar Bharat” package. It also stated the RBI will deduct the amount from the state's account in quarterly instalments if there is failure in payment.

Telangana: 9 Die in Massive Fire Mishap at Srisailam Power Plant

On August 20, a massive fire outbreak in Telangana's Srisailam Hydroelectric Power Plant claimed the lives of nine people, out of which, seven were employees of Telangana state power generation corporation. The rescue team faced obstruction as the smoke chocked the escape tunnel. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has ordered the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to submit reports after investigating the cause of the accident.
