Thanjavur Temple: 11 Dead Due To Electrocution, Probe On

A probe is underway after eleven people died due to electrocution at the Appar Swami temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, during a procession. Commenting on the tragic incident, the Inspector General of Police (Tiruchi Range), V Balakrishnan, noted that an investigation has already been initiated, following the registration of an FIR. Besides, Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs, for the victims' families.

8 Dead, 45 Injured As Bikaner-Guwahati Express Derails In Jalpaiguri: WB

The death toll is now eight, after Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on January 13, at around 5:15pm. Sources confirmed that the train had 12 coaches carrying about 1,200 passengers. An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh has been announced for relatives of deceased and injured, respectively. Meanwhile, an inquiry has been ordered to probe the cause of the accident.

SC Not Satisfied With SIT's Probe In Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

While hearing the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court said on November 8 that it's not satisfied with the SIT's probe in the case. The apex court told the UP government's advocate Harish Salve that ''we granted 10 days' time...lab reports haven't come so far.'' The SC also said it was ''inclined to appoint a judge...to monitor day-to-day investigation''. The next hearing will be held on November 12.

Calling It Attempt To 'Thwart' Probe, NIA Denies Elgar Accused Plea

NIA has told the Bombay HC that the plea filed by two Elgar accused challenging the transfer of the probe is an attempt to "thwart" the investigation.
