Punjab Govt Amends Punjabi Learning Act; Makes Punjabi Compulsory

The Punjab Cabinet on November 7 approved an amendment in the 'Punjab Learning of Punjabi and other Languages Act, 2008' which makes Punjabi a compulsory subject for students of first to tenth class in Punjab. The amendment also increased the penalties under the act. Reportedly, authorities will impose a fine of Rs 50,000 on the first mistake, and Rs 1 and 2 lakh on the second and third mistakes.

Punjab Govt Waives Pending Water Bills & Power Bills Of Rs 1868 Cr

Punjab Cabinet under the leadership of CM Charanjit Singh Channi on October 18 decided to waive off the pending water bill of ''Rs 700 crore in all cities'' and electricity bills of ''Rs 1,168 crore''. Furthermore, the cabinet approved the proposal to provide free power to all rural water supply and reduced the service charges to Rs 50 per household. ''We Promised and We Delivered,'' said Channi.
