Congress Appoints New Party Chief & CLP Leader In Punjab

The Congress appointed Amrinder Singh Brar as the new Party Chief in Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC.) In addition, the Sonia Gandhi-led INC also named MP Pratap Singh Bajwa as the new Congress Legislative Party leader in the Assembly.  Announced on April 10, the decision was taken a month after the party lost in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections 2022, against the Aam Aadmi Party.

Arvind Kejriwal's AAP Leads In Punjab, Crosses Majority Mark In Early Trends

Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in 88 seats, in the Punjab Assembly elections 2022.  As per early counting of votes, the Arvind Kejriwal party is set to make clear victory, as it crossed the majority mark, which is 59 seats for total 117 Assembly seats.  Besides AAP, the BJP is leading in 4 seats, the INC (14), and SAD (8). The final result announcement is awaited.

Sonu Sood's Car Seized At Moga Polling Booth: Punjab Assembly Elections

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood's car was seized to enter Punjab polling booths, on the election day, February 20. The actor was allegedly stopped to avoid influence in voting, when he was attempting to enter Moga district, confirmed district Public Relation officer.  He further added, action will be taken against Sood if he tries to step outside his house. Notably, Sood's sister Malvika is contesting as MLA from Moga district.

Congress Leader Jagmohan Kang Quits Party, Joins AAP: Punjab

Former Punjab minister and Congress leader, Jagmohan Singh Kang and his sons, Yadvinder Singh Kang and Amarinder Singh Kang joined AAP, on February 1. Kang left congress over denial of party ticket from the Kharar Assembly segment. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha welcomed Kang and Sons to the party via Twitter. Notably, Congress gave the party ticket from the Kharar seat to Vijay Sharma.

SAD Announces 4 New Candidates For Punjab Assembly Elections 2022

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD,) on November 28 announced four more candidates for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. Nusrat Ali Khan, Gur Iqbal Singh, Rohit Vohra, and Rajanbir Singh were given tickets to contest the 2022 elections. However, SAD declares 88 Members of the Legislative Assembly candidates. The SAD is going to contest Assembly elections along with the Bahujan Samaj Party, after breaking an alliance with the BJP.
