Punjab On High Alert After Mohali Explosion Attack, Investigation Underway

Punjab is on high alert after the recent rocket explosion outside Mohali police station, on May 10. Furthermore, the investigation of the NIA and Punjab Police in this matter also started in full swing. It is to be noted that Director General of Police (DGP) Viresh Kumar Bhawra said, "Some suspects taken into custody". The statement came after DGP Bhawra had a meeting with the State CM Bhagwant Mann.

Punjab Govt Bans Plastic Products Usage For Health Ministry Functions

The Punjab Directorate of Health and Family Welfare has issued an order, dictating the department to end the use of plastic products. The order stated that the use of packed water in plastic bottles should be avoided at functions by the Health Department. The step, as per the order, has been taken to cut down pollution, plastic waste and to improve public health.

No Fine On Motor Vehicle Tax For 3 Months: Punjab Govt

The AAP-led Punjab Government announced a major relief for pandemic hit transporters in the State. On April 23, CM Bhagwant Mann said, transport businessmen, are allowed to pay motor vehicle tax without any penalty in the next three months. "Transporters are the backbone of our economy and we stand by them in every need". Notably, this was one of the promises made by during the 2022 polls.

Haryana CM Raises Chandigarh Issue, Moves Resolution

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar moved a resolution in the Haryana State Assembly session on April 5.  The resolution was in regard to the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal.  In the moved resolution, the Haryana CM urged the BJP-led Central Government to ensure the construction of the canal. Furthermore, the resolution came after the Punjab CM moved a resolution, demanding Chandigarh into Punjab.

Beneficiaries To Get Door-Step Ration Delivery, Announces Punjab CM

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announced to provide door-step ration delivery for beneficiaries in the State. On March 28, Mann said, "Under the scheme, good quality ration items will be delivered at the beneficiaries' doorstep and no one will now need to stand in queues or leave his work for this". The CM said, the AAP Government's official will call the beneficiary and will deliver the ration as per convinience, availability.

SAD Demands CBI Probe Against Illegal Mining, Alleges CM Channi

Ahead of the Punjab Polls, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, demanded a CBI probe against CM Charanjit Singh Channi. Alleging him of conducting illegal mining in Chamkaur Sahib constituency, Majithia said, "Total loot by Channi in his 111 day tenure will be more than 1,111 crore". Majithia even released audio recordings of CM's close aide Iqbal Singh and his son discussing illegal mining with CM's blessings.

Punjab CM Channi To File Suit Against Delhi CM Kejriwal

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi on January 21 said that he would file a defamation case against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, for calling him a 'dishonest man', following ED raids at some places including the premises of Channi's nephew. Channi claimed that Kejriwal has crossed the limits, and sought permission of party to file a case against him. Kejriwal had earlier called Channi "a dishonest man" after an ED raid.

EC Postpones Punjab Assembly Elections To Feb 20

The Election Commission of India (ECI) postponed polling for the Punjab Assembly elections to February 20. Previously the elections were scheduled on February 14, but was rescheduled after a meeting, on January 17. Reportedly, Punjab ministers and political parties asked the ECI to postpone, in view of the Guru Ravidas Jayanti, on January 16. Now, the voting will be on February 20 and results to be announced on March 10.
