Ex-Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh Likely To Join BJP
Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) chief and former CM Amarinder Singh is likely to join BJP, in presence of senior leaders, on September 19. In the previous assembly polls, PLC in alliance with BJP, lost the election to AAP, and Bhagwant Mann became the CM. Notably, Singh after returning from London following a surgery for his spinal cord, met with PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

BSF Troops Fire At Pakistan Drone Near International Border In Punjab
BSF troops stationed near the International Border (IB) in Punjab, opened fire at a drone which possibly belonged to Pakistan. The drone not able to withstand shots, flew back into the territory of Pakistan. The incident occurred at around 5 pm, in the area of BSF’s Rosa Post BOP 89 Bn in Punjab’s Gurdaspur. A search is underway. Reportedly, such occurrences have increased in the past one year.

Sidhu Moose Wala Case: NIA Raids Multiple Places Of ‘Terror Gangs’
In the ongoing investigation of the Sidhu Moose Wala killing case, NIA has conducted raids at multiple locations of various “terror gangs”. The Agency carried out the search operation in coordination with local police personnel. The search has come after a probe has been launched against some terror gangs. The gangs are suspected to have links to the shoot out of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala on May 29.

Sidhu Moose Wala Case: Main Shooter Deepak Mundi & 2 Associates Arrested In Nepal Border
Deepak Mundi, suspected to be the main shooter of punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, along with two of his associates were taken to Mansa, said officials on September 11. The arrests were made at the West Bengal- Nepal border by the Nepal police, on September 11. Reportedly, all three will now be taken to the CIA police station in Mansa. Further details are awaited.

African Swine Fever With 100% Mortality Reported In Punjab’s Mansa
In Punjab’s Mansa district, African Swine Fever (ASF) virus has been detected in some samples from Talwandi Aklia village. With this, the area has been declared as an “infected zone”, and steps are being taken to contain the spread. Besides, 1-10 km area has been declared as “surveillance zone”. The virus reportedly affects domestic and wild pigs, and has a 100% mortality rate.

BSF Seizes 6.3 Kg Heroin Worth Rs 38 Crore From Pak-Based Smugglers
The officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a cross-border smuggling operation, and seized 6.370 Kgs of heroin. The incident in the village Muhar Jamsher, situated in Punjab’s Fazilka district. The Pakistan-based smugglers despite being shot, managed to flee in dark. In a similar incident, BSF officials seized Rs 22.65 crore worth heroin from Pakistan-based smugglers in Punjab’s Fazilka district.

Floating Solar Plant Set Up On Dhanas Lake In Punjab’s Chandigarh
In Punjab’s Chandigarh, a floating solar plant of 500 kilowatts has been installed on Dhanas lake. Following the installing, the plant will soon be made operational. The plant will reportedly be used to generate electricity for the forest department, and for the three fountains which will be set up on the same lake. The fountains are expected to be installed within this month.

Truck With 38 Kilograms Of Heroin Seized In Punjab, 2 People Detained
Punjab Police confiscated 38 kilograms of heroin from a truck in Punjab's Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and detained two people on August 28. SPS Parmar, Inspector General of Police (Ludhiana Range), stated a squad of police officers stopped a truck after receiving a tip. During the search, officers discovered 38 kg of heroin secreted in the truck's toolbox. Kulwinder Ram and Bittu were named as the accused.

Lakhimpur Kheri Case: SKM To Stage 75-Hour Sit-In Protest Against Centre
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced to stage a 75-hour sit-in protest against the centre in Lakhimpur Kheri case on August 18. SKM is an umbrella group comprising of 40 farm organisations. The protesting farmers are demanding for the proper implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The farmers protests have witnessed a huge amount of violence since it began.

Passenger Bus Collides With Oil Tanker In Pakistan's Punjab, Killing 20 People, Injuring 6
A passenger bus collided with an oil tanker in Pakistan's Punjab province, killing at least 20 passengers and injuring six more. The bus was transporting 26 persons, including a driver and conductor, from Lahore to Karachi. The tragedy happened on a highway in Multan and was apparently caused by overspeeding. After the accident, both the bus and the tanker caught fire, killing up to 18 passengers on the spot.
