Amid rise in COVID-19 cases and Omicron threat, the administration in Pune cancelled two bullock cart races, scheduled to be held on January 1. The races were to be held in Nanoli, and were cancelled following the order issued by concerned Collector. Moreover, Pune district on January 1, reported 631 COVID-19 cases, and two deaths, taking the tally to 11,65,217 and the toll to 19,249, respectively. 

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has signed a one-year contract with Mercedes on February 9. While Hamilton's contract expired in December 2020 and was a free agent until now, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Team expressed gratitude by welcoming and continuing in 2021. As a measure to curb hate speech of different kinds, the micro-blogging site Twitter has updated its conduct policy on December 2. As per the new policy, Twitter will prohibit the “language that dehumanizes people based on race, ethnicity and national origin”.
