Railways Says Trains To Run Normally, Advises People Not To Panic

The Railway Ministry on April 19 released a statement assuring the passengers that trains will continue to run normally. The statement came after huge turnout was seen at railway stations in Delhi after CM Arvind Kejriwal announced a 6-day lockdown on April 19. The ministry has advised the passengers not to panic and follow COVID-19 norms. Besides, only those having confirmed tickets have been advised to come to the stations.

Railways Orders Not To Charge Electronic Devices On Trains At Night

The Railway Board has instructed all zones to bar passengers from charging electronic devices on trains from 11PM to 5AM. The step has been taken as a precautionary measure against the increased cases of fire incidents on trains due to overcharging of electronic devices. The board has also issued guidelines against smoking and carrying inflammable items on the train. Notably, a similar order was issued in 2014 also.

No Human Deaths From Train Accidents In Past 22 Months: Piyush Goyal

Replying to a question on railway safety in the Rajya Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on February 12 stated that no fatalities in train accidents have occurred after March 22, 2019. Besides, he said that the government also keeps a pre and post-monsoon check of the 34,665 railway bridges which are over 100 years old. The union minister also assured the house to use sensors and drones to monitor the keep-up of the archaic bridges.
