Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Pay Homage To Rajiv Gandhi On 31st Death Anniversary

On 31st death anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi paid homage at Vir Bhumi in Delhi, on May 21. Along with them, Congress leaders P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot paid tribute to the former PM. Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest PM of India at the age of 40. He was assassinated by a suicide bomber during his election rally at Sriperumbudur, in 1991.

Rahul Gandhi To Inaugurate 'Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhumiheen Krishi Mazduur Yojana'

Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Singh Bhagel stated that Rah Gandhi will visit the state on February 3 and release the first instalment of "Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhumiheen Krishi Mazduur Yojana". According to the scheme, rural landless families are entitled for an annual financial aid of Rs 6,000. The registration for the scheme started in September, 2020. Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi will also lay the foundation stone of "Gandhi Sevagram".

Renaming Orang National Park Is Political Vendetta: Assam Cong MP

As the Assam cabinet under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma decided to remove Rajiv Gandhi's name from Orang National Park, Congress leader Ripun Bora termed the move as ''Political Vendetta'' on September 3. Bora said, ''It reflects a lack of respect to a great leader who sacrificed his life for the country.'' He said the decision pained Assam's people and will derail the state from development's path.

Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case Convict Seeks Parole; SC To Hear After 3-week

Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict, A G Perarivalan's plea of seeking grant on parole has been scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court after three weeks. Serving a life sentence, Perarivalan's lawyer was the one who sought the adjournment through a letter. However, the SC had extended Perarivalan's parole on Nov 23, 2020, by a week for undergoing health check-ups, and the TN govt provided police escort.

Apex Court Extends Parole For A.G. Perarivalan By A Week

Instructing the police to accompany AG Perarivalan during his medical check-ups, the Apex Court on November 23 lengthened his parole by one week. Perarivalan, who is serving a life sentence for Rajiv Gandi's assassination was earlier granted parole by Madras High Court, which was due on November 23. The 46-year-old had been awarded a death sentence which was reduced to life imprisonment in 2018. He has been imprisoned since 1991.
