Philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade Swears In As New Rajya Sabha MP

Renowned philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade took oath as a new member of the Rajya Sabha, on July 21. He is also the administrator of the Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. Besides Heggade, legendary music composer Ilayaraja, athlete PT Usha and screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad also sworn in as new Rajya Sabha members. Notably, Heggade was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2015.

Opposition Stages Protest Against GST Rates Hike, Brings Milk & Curd Packets To Parliament

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 4 pm on July 20, since opposition brought milk and curd packets to protest against the increased prices and GST rates on household items. The protest was staged outside parliament, near the Mahatma Gandhi statue, and within both the houses. Notably, Rajya Sabha proceedings were also postponed till 2 pm. Further details are awaited.

Indian Govt To Roll Out E-Passports, Starts Testing Chips: V Muraleedharan

V Muraleedharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, informed Rajya Sabha that the Indian government will soon launch e-passports for the citizens of India. The e-passports will come an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and an antenna as inlay in the back cover, said Muraleedharan. He further stated that the launch will be made during 2022-23. The testing process has reportedly been started using sample chips.
