Philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade Swears In As New Rajya Sabha MP
Renowned philanthropist D Veerendra Heggade took oath as a new member of the Rajya Sabha, on July 21. He is also the administrator of the Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. Besides Heggade, legendary music composer Ilayaraja, athlete PT Usha and screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad also sworn in as new Rajya Sabha members. Notably, Heggade was honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2015.

Opposition Stages Protest Against GST Rates Hike, Brings Milk & Curd Packets To Parliament
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 4 pm on July 20, since opposition brought milk and curd packets to protest against the increased prices and GST rates on household items. The protest was staged outside parliament, near the Mahatma Gandhi statue, and within both the houses. Notably, Rajya Sabha proceedings were also postponed till 2 pm. Further details are awaited.

P Chidambaram Resigns From Maharashtra Seat After Elected To Rajya Sabha From Tamil Nadu
After the election to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu, P Chidambaram resigned from his seat in Maharashtra. He said that the Chairman of RS has accepted his resignation and that he was honoured to represent Maharashtra. 2 Newly Elected Rajya Sabha Members From Telangana & Bihar Take Oath
Ravichandra Vaddiraju from Telangana and Aneel Prasad Hegde from Bihar, swore in as the newly elected members of Rajya Sabha, on May 30. They were elected through bye-elections, to fill the vacancies, after the resignation of Banda Prakash and the passing away of Mahendra Prasad. Reportedly, Vaddiraju, a TRS leader, took oath in Telugu. Meanwhile, Hegde, a JDU leader, took oath in Hindi.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal announced to quit party and filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat on Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket. On May 24, the ex-congress leader filed his nomination in presence of the SP President Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow. He said, "It is important to be an independent voice in parliament. Harbhajan Singh Pledges To Donate Rajya Sabha Earnings To Farmers' Daughters
Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, on April 16, announced to donate his earnings from Rajya Sabha to the daughters of the farmers, for their education and welfare. Indian Govt To Roll Out E-Passports, Starts Testing Chips: V Muraleedharan
V Muraleedharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, informed Rajya Sabha that the Indian government will soon launch e-passports for the citizens of India. The e-passports will come an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and an antenna as inlay in the back cover, said Muraleedharan. He further stated that the launch will be made during 2022-23. The testing process has reportedly been started using sample chips.
