Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, is alleged to have used derogatory language in reference to the BJP and its followers, labeling them as 'Rakshas’. Surjewala's remarks during the Congress 'Jan Akrosh rally' held in Kaithal, Haryana, drew political reactions and criticism. "Those aligned with the BJP and the JJP are termed 'rakshas' (monsters), and the same label is applied to supporters," said Surjewala.

A day ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Congress leaders expressed their confidence of winning the elections. In an interview, Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the BJP has accepted their defeat in the Karnataka Assembly Elections. The Congress party officials confirmed that Party President Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to ICU, at Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. On June 12, she was taken due to COVID-related issues and is said to be under stable condition. Randeep Surjewala, the INC Spokesperson said, "She is stable and will be kept at the hospital for observation". Recently, Gandhi was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was under home isolation.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi tested positive for Covid-19, on June 2. Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala confirmed the same saying, that Gandhi developed a mild fever on June 1 evening and took Covid-19 test, and resulted positive.
