Delhi HC Dismisses PIL Sought To Halt SpiceJet's Operations Due To 'Safety Concerns'

Delhi High Court denied a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that asked the court to order SpiceJet Ltd to cease all flight operations in light of recent safety problems the low-cost carrier has encountered. After determining that there was no basis to admit the petition, a division bench declined to hear it. According to PIL filed, airline should suspend operations to avoid a major accident that might endanger lives of people.

Fact-Check Case: UP Sessions Court Dismisses Alt News Co-Founder Mohammed Zubair's Bail Application

A sessions court in Uttar Pradesh on July 16 denied Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair's bail application in a fact-checking case. The hearing on Zubair's police custody detention will take place on July 20, according to Zubair's lawyer, Harjit Singh. In September 2021, Zubair was summoned by a Lakhimpur Kheri court in connection with a charge brought against him by a journalist from a news station for a fact-check tweet.

Court Rejects Amber Heard's Request For New Trial In Defamation Case Against Johnny Depp

Amber Heard's request for a fresh trial in her defamation lawsuit with ex-husband Johnny Depp was denied by court on July 13 after her attorneys argued that one of the jurors had served inappropriately. After a jury determined that Heard had defamed Depp in a newspaper opinion article, Heard was forced to pay Depp $10.35 million in damages. A judge said "no evidence of fraud or wrongdoing" by the juror.

Supreme Court Rejects PIL Demanding Door To Door COVID-19 Vaccination

The Supreme Court has rejected the PIL on September 8 suggesting door-to-door vaccination across the country. "Given the diverse Covid situations and administrative complexities in the country, door to door vaccination is not feasible, especially when vaccination is proceeding extremely well," Court said. However, the apex court also rejected the other PIL demanding compensation for medical negligence to the kin of every Covid death case.

MP HC Rejects Bail Of Man Accused Of Rape On Pretext Of Marriage

The Madhya Pradesh HC rejected the bail plea of a man accused of rape on the pretext of marriage. Justice Subodh Abhyankar said, “India has not yet reached such level of civilization where unmarried girls indulge in carnal activities with boys just for the fun of it". The Court further concluded that boys should realize the consequences of their actions as the receiving end of risks are always girls.

Raj Kundra's Bail Rejected; Chargesheet To Be Filed Soon

Businessman Raj Kundra, arrested for his porn films racket, will stay in jail till August 20 after his bail rejection. An officer had claimed that a charge sheet will be filed against Kundra and 10 others if his bail is rejected in the specified 60 days since the arrest. However, now a charge sheet will be filed against Kundra, while another one was filed against the nine accused in April.
