Reliance Jio, Adani group & Major Participates In 5G Telecom Spectrum Auction

The auction for 5G telecom spectrum began on July 25. Four key contenders are Reliance Jio, Adani Group, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea. Mukesh Ambani Resigns, Announces Akash Ambani As New Reliance Chairman

Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Jio resigned from his post and named Akash Ambani as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.  On June 28, in an official statement, the company said, the board of directors, "approved the appointment of Akash M Ambani, non-executive director, as chairman of the board of directors of the company." In addition, Mohan Pawar has been appointed as Reliance MD.

Jio Ranks 1st In Download Speed, Vodafone Idea Ranks 1st In Upload Speed: TRAI

Reliance Jio surpassed all the 4G service providers in India to get the top spot by providing the highest average data download speed of 21.9 megabit per second in October, as per telecom regulator TRAI. Vodafone Idea (VIL) registered a downloading speed of 15.6 Mbps in October whereas Airtel recorded 13.2 Mbps. However, VIL defeated others in terms of 4G data upload speed with 7.6 Mbps in October.

Ambani's Reliance Jio Network Down For Several User In India

Reliance Jio subscribers on October 6 have complained that they faced network issues with some saying that their phone showed 'no service'. Reportedly, several others reported that their broadband connection also went down. However, according to Downdetector, the complaints spiked sharply at around 11 AM. The Jio customer support Twitter handle users said, "this is temporary & our teams are working on the same."

Jio Leads Wireless Subscribers Base With 6.1 Million New Users In July

In a recent report published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio led an active wireless subscriber base with  6.1 million users while Bharati Airtel stood second at 2.3 million for the month of July. "Based on the active subscribers market, Jio now shares the market leadership position with Bharti," the report highlighted. The pace of Bharti Airtel's new subscribers slowed down in the recorded month.

Jio Gains New Users, Airtel, Vodafone Idea Loses Subscribers: TRAI Data

According to the Telecom regulator authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio accumulated a 35.54 lakh new wireless subscriber base in May and currently has 43.12 crore users in India. However, Airtel's user base decreased by 46.13 lakh to 34.8 core and Vodafone Idea lost 42.8 lakh subscribers and the user base stands at 27.7 core. Notably, the total users in India stand at 117.6 core.

Jio Launches Free Calling Minutes For Users Amid COVID Pandemic

To help users during the pandemic, Jio has teamed up with the Reliance Foundation to provide JioPhone users a total of 300-free-minutes of outgoing calls/month or 10 minutes/day. Moreover, ‘for every JioPhone plan recharged by users, they will get an additional recharge plan of the same value for free’. However, the users subscribed to annual or JioPhone device bundled plans cannot avail this plan.

Jio Tops In 4G Download Speed; Vodafone Ranks 1 In Upload For April

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed that with a speed of 20.1 Mbps, Reliance Jio had the highest download speed in 4G networks for April 2021. While the nearest competitor Vodafone was approximately three times less than Jio at 7 Mbps, it was followed by Idea at 5.8 Mbps. For uploading speed, Vodafone topped the chart at 6.7 Mbps, followed by Idea at 6.1 Mbps.

5G Spectrum Auction: Reliance Jio Leads In Earnest Money Deposit

Reliance Jio has taken lead in earnest money deposit for the 5G spectrum auction scheduled from March 1. Investing Rs 10,000 crore EMD, Jio has been allocated the highest eligibility points (73,007) by the Telecom department. While Airtel deposited Rs 3,000 crore, Vodafone was allocated 6,153 points over its Rs 457 crore EMD. The 2,251.25 megahertz spectrum worth Rs 3.92 lakh crore auction will be in seven frequency bands.
