Remdesivir Likely To Get Dropped From COVID Treatment Over Inefficacy

Popular antiviral drug Remdesivir is being considered to be dropped from COVID-19 treatment due to lack of evidence in effectiveness, informed Ganga Ram Hospital Chairman DS Rana. He said, "There is no such evidence regarding Remdesivir that works in COVID-19 treatment. Medicines that do not... work, will have to be discontinued". Recently, plasma therapy has been dropped from the treatment due to the same reason.

Union Minister: About 76 Lakh Remdesivir Vial Allocated To Various States And UTs

Union Minister Sadananda Gowda tweeted a document revealing the allocation of Remdesivir vials to various States and UTs from April 23 to May 23. A substantial increase has been made in overall production and allocation' of the drug, he added. He asked the States and UTs to monitor the distribution of drug in govt and private hospitals. The data states 76 Lakh Remdesivir vials allocated to the States and UTs.

Delhi HC Asks Centre, Delhi Govt About Remdesivir Crisis In Capital

The Delhi HC on April 27 questioned the Centre and Delhi government over scarcity of COVID-19 drug Remdesivir in Delhi. Noting that when entire procurement is done by the Centre and only hospitals can administer them, the court said how patients will get the drug if only beds are not available. The court heard a lawyer’s plea who received only three of six required Remdesivir doses due to shortage.

Centre To Provide 4.35L Doses Of Remdesivir To Maharashtra

The Centre has approved a supply of 4,35,000 vials of Remdesivir doses to Maharashtra, accepting CM Uddhav Thackrey's request. To be supplied by April 30, the antiviral drug will enhance Maharashtra's fight against COVID-19. CM Uddhav thanked PM Narendra Modi for the supply approval. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) also stated that earlier 2,69,000 vials of Remdesivir were approved by the central government to the state.

MP: Two Doctors, Three Staff Booked Under Black Marketing Of Remdesivir

Two doctors and three others have been arrested for allegedly black marketing Remdesivir in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. Reportedly, the doctors used to sell Remdesivir to the people at high prices considering the demand. Four Remdesivir vials, Rs 10,400 cash and six mobile phones have been recovered by the police. However, a case has been registered under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 188 (disobedience) and 34 (common intention).

Web Search For 'Remdesivir', 'RC-PTR Test', 'Oxygen Cylinder' Increases

A recent data collected by Google and various analytics sites have suggested that internet searches for COVID-related terms such as Remdesivir injections, RT-PCR tests, oxygen cylinders, and hospital beds have increased. Reportedly, the term “remdesivir near me” was searched most in Maharashtra while Delhi searched “oxygen cylinder near me” the most. Moreover, the search volume of these words soared in the week ending April 17.

Nagpur Police Nabs Two For Selling Water In Remdesivir Vials

Maharashtra’s Nagpur police have arrested two X-ray technicians for allegedly selling water in Remdesivir vials. The technicians, Abhilash Petkar and Aniket Namdeshwar quoted Rs 40,000 for the doses and later agreed for Rs 28,000 to an attendee, whose patient was admitted. The attendee, on suspicion approached the police which then uncovered the scam. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.

COVID: MP Govt Airlifts Remdesivir To Various Districts Amidst Crisis

The Madhya Pradesh government on April 20 airlifted at least 15,000 vials of the anti-viral Remdesivir drug to various districts from Indore. Reportedly, this was the third time in last five days that MP government deployed aircrafts/helicopters to deliver the essential drugs to different parts of the state. Notably, the state witnessed acute shortage of the drug while arresting a number of people for black-marketing.
