CJI NV Ramana Calls For 50% Reservation For Women In Judiciary

NV Ramana, Chief Justice of India on September 26, called for a 50% reservation for women in the judiciary and wished to have the same in law colleges. "We need 50% reservation for women in judiciary. It is an issue of thousands of years of oppression," he said. Records show that less than 30% of women constitute the lower judiciary while it is 11% for higher levels.

Karnataka Provides 1% Reservation To Transgender Community

In a historic move, Karnataka becomes the first state in the country to provide 1% reservation to transgenders in general as well as reserve category of all government services. As per the amended Karnataka Civil Service Rule, 1977, everyone must be hired on the grounds of "fairness". The rule also possesses a section named the "others" option in the gender column.

Maha CM Asks PM Modi To Increase 50% Reservation For Marathas, OBCs

In a meeting chaired with PM Narendra Modi, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has requested the Centre to increase the 50% reservation for Marathas and OBCs. “We presented all the facts, and steps need to be taken. He intently heard us and we are hopeful that positive steps will be taken,” Thackeray said. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and PWD Minister Ashok Chavan were also present in the meeting.

Supreme Court To Schedule Hearing On Maratha Quota Law On Feb 5
