Aiming for road safety in Delhi and avoiding accidents, the Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) of Delhi launched a month-long ‘Tactical Urbanism Trial’. A brutal car-bike collision in Delhi's Shakarpur has left three dead, while two others have sustained injuries. Two of the victims have been identified as sisters Bharti (19) and Jyoti (17). The identity of the third victim, the bike rider with a Zomato shirt on, is yet not known. When the police reached the spot, they found a mangled car lying upside down, and a badly damaged bike.

Taking note of safety standards, the Delhi High Court on April 12 urged the Bureau of Indian Standards to oversee the selling and manufacturing of helmets. Reportedly, the plea filed by NGO 'Utprerit Consumer Foundation' failed to receive answers from BIS over its 1,400 complaints filed since 2019. Aiming to make road safety stricter, the Centre has prepared a draft to provide body wearable and dashboard fitted cameras to the police. Along with the violators, the wearable cameras also aim at checking "malpractices" by police as the camera will keep a record of whether the offenders were duly tackled. While the draft was issued as an amendment the US and UK have already been using similar cameras.

Around 97% of drivers opine that distraction by mobile phones while driving is the major cause of the road accidents, revealed Ford India's survey 'Cartesy 2.0'. The survey sampling 1,561 participants nationwide also mentioned aggressive driving and lack of education as other reasons behind road accidents.
