BSF Troops Shoot Pakistani Drug Smuggler While Attempting To Cross Border

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, across the International Border (IB), Border Security Force (BSF) troops shot a Pakistani intruder, informed officials on August 25. According to the BSF spokesperson, the intruder was trying to smuggle drugs into the border. Reportedly, the intruder suffered bullet wound, and managed to flee the spot. The officials found blood stains on the spot he was shot.

Security Forces Detect & Defuse Anti-Tank Mine In J&K's Samba District

In J&K's Samba district, an anti-tank mine was detected near the Bandh Tip area, on July 29. Reportedly, the mine found buried under the ground. Upon the mine's detection, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) immediately commenced an operation, and defused it. Earlier in January, in J&K's Poonch district, over 200 detonators were identified and destroyed by security forces.

Tunnel Found In Jammu's Samba Area, Security Tightened

A small opening, suspected to be a tunnel, has been found near Jammu's Samba area, on May 5. Reportedly, a probe into the tunnel will be carried out by BSF shortly. After two JeM terrorists were killed in an encounter, it was established that they had infiltrated from somewhere in Sopowal area of Samba. After which, the BSF launched a massive anti-tunnelling operation in the area.

Ceasefire Violation: Pakistani Rangers Open Fire Along LOC In J&K's Samba

Pakistani troops on May 3 opened fire along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. Reportedly, the ceasefire violation was the first instance after the February 25 agreement signed between India and Pakistan to maintain peace along the Line of Control.  While no casualties were reported, a BSF official said, earlier also a similar agreement was signed in 2003 but could not stop ceasefire violations.

Brazil: Rio Carnival 2021 Postponed Due To COVID-19

Brazil’s iconic Rio Carnival 2021 has been postponed for the first time in 100 years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Carnival organiser, League of Samba Schools LIESA stated that it is impossible to safely conduct the parades during such times. The decision is likely to impact thousands of Brazilians dependent on the Carnival for livelihood. The country had reported its first COVID case a day after the Carnival 2020 in February.
