Supreme Court Refuses Marriage Equality Rights To Same Sex In India

The Supreme Court, on October 17, refused to legalize same sex marriage for LGBTQ+ community in India. In the court hearing, the bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, said, in a 3-2 majority, the court said, cannot make laws and it is up to the government to give legal status to marriages between transgender people. However, the SC mentioned that unmarried people and queer couple can adopt.

US House Of Representatives Endorses Bill To Safeguard Same-Sex Marriages

US House of Representatives approved a bill to guarantee marriage equality on July 19 amid concerns that the Supreme Court would reverse its recognition of same-sex marriage. The Respect for Marriage Act was approved by a vote of 267 to 157, with 47 Republicans joining all Democrats in support. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for consideration, where it faces uncertain prospects in the equally split body.

Same-Sex Marriage Legalized In The Mexican State Of Sonora

Making the practice legal in about three-quarters of the country's regions, on September 23, the Mexican state of Sonora's congress legalized same-sex marriage.
