Same Sex Marriage: SC Asks Centre To Provide Benefits Similar To Marriage
In a relief to homosexual, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Centre to find a way to give same-sex couples basic social benefits, like joint bank accounts or nominating a partner in insurance policies, even without legal recognition of their marital status. The statement came during an ongoing hearing into a bunch of PILs filed in the Top Court, seeking legal validation for same-sex marriage in India.

Apex Court Resumes Hearing On Same Sex Marriage
Supreme Court bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud entered the second day of its hearing on the historic same-sex marriage issue. The bench continued hearing the bunch of PILs filed seeking legal validation for same-sex marriage in India. However, on the second day, the Central Government filed an application, demanding the appearance of states and UTs in the hearing, as they are major stakeholders and should give opinions.

Kiren Rijiju Shares View On 'Same-Sex Marriage Issue
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju gave his statement on the recent same-sex marriage controversial issue. On March 18, addressing the media, Kiren Rijiju said, " same-sex marriage is a matter that should be left to the wisdom of the people of the country." He said, "The Supreme Court has its own authority. We are not supposed to encroach on its territory," Notably, the SC is reviewing the matter.

NCP’s Supriya Sule Brings Bill To Legalise Same-Sex Marriage
NCP leader Supriya Sule introduced a private member’s bill that seeks to give equal rights of marriage to the LGBTQIA+ community. Proposed in the parliament on April 1, the bill demanded to replace the words husband, wife and suggested solemnizing such marriages and fixing the age of marriage at 21 years for both men,18 years in case of women. This Act may be called the Special Marriage (Amendment) Act, 2022.

Centre Given '2 Weeks' In Livestreaming Same-Sex Marriage Petitions Issue
In an application filed before the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi seeking live streaming of proceedings of petitions pertaining to the recognition of same-sex marriages, Delhi HC has given two weeks of time for the Centre to respond. The order has come after Delhi HC notified the centre in November, 2021, and received no response. The petitioner stated that this matter is of "national importance", which will "affect large population".

Delhi HC Asks Centre, State Last Time To File Reply On Same-Sex Marriage PIL
