Sania Mirza of India and her Croatian partner Mate Pavic advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon 2022 mixed doubles match on July 1. Sania and Pavic seeded sixth, defeated Georgia's Natela Dzalamidze and Spain's David Vega Hernandez in one hour and 58 minutes. The 35-year-old Sania is competing in her last Wimbledon event and is in her final season as a professional tennis player. 

Tennis star Sania Mirza announced her retirement, on January 19. After her recent defeat at Australian Open 2022 in women's double event, Mirza said, she will be playing her last match in 2022 end and will bid goodbye to tennis. "The energy is not the same anymore," said Mirza. Notably, Sania Mirza is former World No. 1 player in doubles and first Indian to win Grand Slam. 

Rohan Bopanna slammed AITA in a tweet on July 19 for "misleading the players, government, media and everyone else" after claiming he still had a chance to qualify for Tokyo Olympics. Sania Mirza, Bopanna's supposed mixed doubles partner at Tokyo Games, replied, "India lost a good shot at a medal".  AITA reiterated back by claiming withdrawals shouldn't have been the way to get in for a good player.

Marking her return to WTA circuit after 12 months, Indian Tennis ace Sania Mirza registered her win at the Qatar Total open on March 1. Sania has now entered doubles quarterfinal with Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac, as they defeated Ukraine's Nadiia Kichenok and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-5. Interestingly, Sania's previous return from her maternity leave was in January 2020 when she won the Hobart Open pairing with Nadiia.
