According to a scientist from the COVID-19 government panel, an alleged third wave of Covid-19 may strike between October-November. However, India is likely to witness half of the cases recorded daily during the second surge. The infection can spread rapidly if a new mutant of SARS-CoV-2 is found. Earlier, last year the Department of Science and Technology had formed the panel to tackle coronavirus cases surge using mathematical models.

Union Govt Claims Covishield, Covaxin Effective Against SARS-CoV-2

The Union Government has addressed that 'Covishield' produced by Serum Institute, and 'Covaxin' by Bharat Biotech is assumed to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 variants Delta, Alpha and Gamma. However, the efficacy test is still under process and results will be out within the next week. As per the ICMR Director General, Balram Bhargava, Covishield reduces its efficiency by 2.5 times with Alpha while Covaxin is potent with Delta.

Oldest Vaccine for Tuberculosis Reduce the Risk of Contracting COVID-19 

As per a new study, Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) - the oldest vaccine for Tuberculosis - is likely to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19. The researchers have tested the blood of more than 6,000 healthcare workers for the antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. In which, 30% of the workers, who have received BCG vaccinations in the past, were likely to test negative for the virus. However, the reason is still ambiguous.
