Hearing a petition of Safai Karamchari Andolan, the Madras High Court on March 16 ordered for strict actions against the officials of municipalities in case of manual scavenging deaths. The court observed that the head of corporations and municipalities in Tamil Nadu must be held personally responsible for such deaths.
