SAD Walks Out Of NDA Alliance In Protest Against Farmer's Bill

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has quit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on September 27 citing differences over the farmer's bill. The decision was taken during a core-committee meeting between the senior members of the SAD party that went on for almost three hours. Party chief, Sukhbir Singh Badal, informed through Twitter that this decision was taken due to the "Centre's stubbornness".

Central Government Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal Resigns Over New Farm Bills

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the Union minister post after the party faced strong opposition from the farmers of Haryana and Punjab over the Centre's new agricultural bills. SAD party chief Sukhbir Badal said that the party will support the government from outside but would not support the bill. Reportedly, the new farm bill seeks to deregulate agricultural food items.
