Shopian District

In Jammu & Kashmir, fresh attacks on Kashmiri Pandits were reportedly attacked. On August 15, the attack comes amid an outcry over Kashmiri Pandits being targeted. Sunil Kumar Bhat and Pintoo Kumar Bhat, the victims, were brothers from the village of Chotigam, who came under attack in an apple orchard in the Shopian neighbourhood of Chotipora. Sunil allegedly passed away after being shot, whereas Pintoo is undergoing treatment.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched multiple raids at various places in Jammu & Kashmir's Baramulla and Shopian district, on March 9.  The raids were carried out after the NIA received intelligence input over some anti-national activities being carried out in the region. In Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, two LeT/TRF terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on January 22. The operation was launched on the given information regarding the presence of terrorists, police said. They were identified as Sameer Ahmad Shah and Rayees Ahmad Mir and both were involved in several terror crimes. The bodies have been retrieved including incriminating materials, arms and ammunition.

In a new development in the gunfights ensuing in the Rawalpora region of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, security forces killed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Sajjad Afghani on March 15. Classified as one of the most-wanted militants of the state, Afghani was allegedly involved in mobilizing youths into terrorism. A lawyer Gowhar Ahmed Wani, who was alleged to be a Congress member, has been charged by the Jammu and Kashmir police on December 10. Gowhar has been accused of ferrying terrorists in his car and is booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. As per police, Gowhar has been absconding since December 7 and was detained for interrogation on December 9. However, Congress has denied links with Gowhar Wani.
