Bombay HC Rejects Plea, Orders Jogeshwari Slum Residents To Evacuate For Metro Rail 6 Project

A petition filed by over 150 slum residents seeking a new survey of Project Affected Persons for Metro 6 project from Swami Samarth Nagar-JVLR-SEEPZ-Kanjurmarg-Vikhroli Metro Rail Corridor was denied by the Bombay High Court. Non-Slums, High-Rise Buildings In Mumbai Contribute 90% COVID Cases

A recent study by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suggested that high-rise buildings and non-slum areas contribute to over 90% of the COVID cases in Mumbai. Reportedly, of the total 87,443 active COVID-19 cases (as of April 16) in the city, 79,032 cases have been reported from high-rise buildings while slums logged only 8,411 cases. Interestingly, Mumbai's slums were the worst-hit during the first wave of the pandemic.

NGO To Build 35 Handwash Stations At Slums To Improve Hygiene

To improve personal hygiene and raise awareness on COVID-19, an Ahmedabad-based NGO has planned to build 35 pedal-operated handwash stations in the city's slums. Supported by UNICEF, the NGO, Agakhan Agency for Habitat, has already installed nine washing stations in five major slums - Behrampura, Ramol, Sarkhej, Danilimda and Vasna - in Ahmedabad. Fire in Kolkata slum

Kolkata: Massive Fire Leaves 50 to 60 Huts Burnt

On November 10 a fire accident broke out in Kolkata's Topsia area which left 50 to 60 huts burnt down. However, no casualties have been reported from the incident. The rescue operation was initiated with ten fire tenders positioned on the spot. CM Mamata Banerjee along with the  Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Basu, visited the area soon.
