Smokers At 50% Higher Risk Of COVID-Caused Death, Disease: WHO

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on May 29 said that smokers are 50% highly prone to contracting severe disease or death by COVID-19. He suggested, "Quitting is the best thing they [smokers] can do to lower their risk from coronavirus". Under the 'Commit to quit tobacco' campaign, WHO aims to create tobacco-free environments. Govt Rejects Claims Of Vegetarians, Smokers Being Less Vulnerable To COVID

The PIB Fact Check Twitter account, in its clarification statement on April 26, has rejected those claims that opined that vegetarians and smokers are less prone to COVID-19 infection.
