Women's Reservation Bill Passed In Lok Sabha With 455 Votes

The Women's Reservation Bill, introduced in the special parliament session by the Union Law Minister, finally was passed in the Lok Sabha, on September 20. The bill, aiming to provide 33% quota to women belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and other Backward Class in the Lok Sabha and assembly seats, has been passed with 455 MPs votes. The bill now will be tabled in Rajya Sabha.

Special Parliament Session Begins On September 18, PM Modi To Open Session

The five-day "Amrit Kaal" session of parliament begins today. The agenda includes discussions on the evolution of India's parliamentary democracy. Eight bills are listed, including a controversial one on the Chief Election Commissioner's pick. Monday's discussion on 75 years of parliament likely to be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha and BJP's senior leader Piyush Goyal in the Rajya Sabha.

Govt Calls For All-Party Meeting On September 17, Discussions Awaits

The government has called an all-party meeting on September 17, a day before the special session of Parliament commences. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi made this announcement and said that invitations were sent through e-mail to all leaders of opposition parties to attend the meeting. Hemant Soren Led Govt Wins Trust Vote In Jharkhand

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren won the trust vote, and proved his majority during a special assembly session, on September 5. As per sources, the ruling coalition has 49 MLAs in the 81-member assembly, crossing majority mark of 41. The JMM has 30 MLAs, the Congress 18, and Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has one. Furthermore, during the trust vote, BJP MLAs walked out, denying allegations of poaching JMM MLAs.

Punjab Assembly Calls For Special Session: Chandigarh Issue

The Punjab Assembly will convene a special session on April 1. As per sources, CM Bhagwant Mann will introduce a resolution in the matter pertaining to the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Earlier, centre announced to make central service rules applicable to the employees of Chandigarh. CM Bhagwant Mann revolted against the decision and called it a violation of the Punjab Reorganisation Act. The session will be held at 10 am.
