Italy Announces State Of Emergency For Ongoing Drought, Heatwave

Italian government announced a state of emergency on July 4 in response to Italy's extended heatwave and drought conditions. State of emergency will be in effect until at least the end of the year and will provide the government with additional resources and authority to deal with the hot and dry weather. Most of Italy has been engulfed by record-breaking heat, with temperatures consistently above 40 degrees Celsius.

Sri Lanka Removes State Of Emergency After 2 Weeks; Faces Tremendous Economic Riots

The Sri Lankan government removed the state of emergency on May 21, approximately two weeks after it was implemented across the country in response to huge anti-government and economic riots. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka had announced a state of emergency on May 6. The decision was made in order to enhance the situation in terms of law and order.

Sri Lanka President Declares State Of Emergency With Effect From Midnight

As the protests in Sri Lanka continue unabated, Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has declared a state of emergency, effective from the midnight of 7th May. This comes amid growing economic turmoil in the country. This marks the second time an emergency has been declared in the country in merely five weeks. A spokesman for the President shared that this move is just meant to ensure public order.

Sudan PM Abdulla Hamdok submitted his resignation from his post due to an ongoing "political crisis" in the country, on January 3. ''I announce to you my resignation...to make way for another person,'' said Hamdok. Reportedly, the crisis started since General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency in October. However, it is not clear who will take up the post next.

State Of Emergency Declared In New York: Spike In Covid-19 Cases

Owing to the spike in new Coronavirus infections, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency till January 15, 2022, on the evening of November 26. ''New York is now experiencing COVID-19 transmission at rates the state hasn't seen since April 2020,'' read the executive order. The measure will boost the vaccination efforts and will increase hospital capacity in the state, reported UNI.

About 1,297 people have lost their lives in a massive earthquake that shook Haiti on August 15. At least 5,700 people have been injured. Haiti's civil protection agency stated nearly 13,600 buildings have been destroyed. Reportedly, the health clinics have been flooded with the injured and are running out of space to accommodate them. Meanwhile, Haiti has been under a state of emergency for a month.

After almost seven months, the authorities in Spain revoked the state of emergency declared due to COVID-19. The emergency was declared in October 2020 and it gave the government right to impose restrictions such as night curfew or banning the travel.
