In a tragic incident, a man and his wife allegedly committed suicide, hours after the woman was gang-raped in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district. An FIR has been filed over the incident and two men have been arrested in connection with the matter. Basti Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopal Krishana, said that the husband died on Friday night while his wife died at a hospital in Gorakhpur.

The rising suicide and mental health issue, has increased dramatically in India. As per the recent National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) every year more than 1,00,000 people commit suicide in our country. The latest data available for the year 2021 shows a 7.2% increase over 2020. The rising number of suicides, especially amongst youths is a matter of concern, with the need for mental awareness among people.

The Jadavpur University student's death amid a ragging probe forced another student, to commit suicide. According to sources, the student took extreme steps and tried to kill himself, to save himself from police probe and harassment. A 16-year-old boy died by suicide by jumping off fifth floor of his residential building in Prateeksha Nagar. The victim’s father is an officer in the BMC. After the incident, he suffered from high blood pressure and was admitted to a hospital. A police officer said that the incident took place on August 8, evening but came in light on August 10. A case is registered for investigation.

In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old post-graduate student of Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) was found dead. The girl, a native of Odisha was found in her hostel room on the campus at Telangana’s Sangareddy district, confirmed police on August 8. Notably, she died in just 12 days of joining the IIT-campus. Furthermore, a suicide note saying, nobody to be blamed and she is under mental pressure, also recovered.
