Tokyo Olympics: Sumit Nagal Records India's First Victory In Tennis Singles Since 1996.
Sumit Nagal on July 24 became only the first Indian to win a Men's Singles match at the Olympic Games since 1996. Nagal who came in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a surprise entry beat former world No. 33 Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin with 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in the opening match. With Sumit Nagal moving on to the second round, India's hope in the Men's Singles remains afloat.

Biella ATP Challenger: Sumit Nagal, Prajnesh Gunneswaran Crash Out in First Round
Indian tennis players Sumit Nagal and Prajnesh Gunneswaran, lost in their respective first-round singles qualifiers at the ATP Challenger Biella, Italy. Nagal lost 6-7 (4-7), 4-6 to Slovenian opponent, Blaz Kavcic. Gunneswaran lost 7-6 (7-5),4-6 to Maxime Cressy. Earlier, the players failed to show progress in the US Open where Nagal had lost in the first-round singles qualifier and Gunneswaran stepped out in the second round.

US Open: Sumit Nagal Enters Second Round; 1st Indian in 7 years
On September 1, tennis player Sumit Nagal created history by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the second round of the Grand Slam Singles. Nagal defeated American player Bradley Klahn with scores 6-1, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. With this, the 23-year-old tennis star became the first Indian to win a match at the US Open in the last 7 years. Last time, Somdev Devvarman did it at 2013 US Open.
