Hyderabadis were excited to witness first IPL match after a span of three years in the stadium. As the 16th edition of the IPL started with a bang, cricket lovers felt extreme happiness, as they are allowed to visit stadiums and cheer their favourite teams. A similar aura was at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Uppal, where Sunrisers Hyderabad played agianst Rajasthan Royals.

BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla on May 4 announced that IPL is suspended due to players testing positive to COVID-19. He said that it is not cancelled and can be rescheduled later. The decision came along when Sunrisers Hyderabad player Wridihiman Saha and various other franchise members tested COVID positive. IPL chairman Brijesh Patel said that although suspended indefinitely, they will try to conduct it in next month

Sunrisers Hyderabad management on May 1 removed its captain David Warner and gave the captainship to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for the remaining tournament. Reportedly, the southpaw Australian opener was not performing well as SRH lost five of the six games played at IPL2021. The franchise also pointed of changing the overseas combinations in the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals on May 2. 

Delhi Capitals have made their maiden entry into IPL final after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 17 runs in second 'Qualifier'. With stellar-show of Warner and Saha, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Delhi Capitals after putting highest total on Dubai ground in IPL-13.
