Former CJI Ramana In Court One Day After Retiring
Former Chief Justice of India NV Ramana appeared in court a day after retiring for his role in securing five acres of property worth Rs250 crore in Hyderabad's Hi-Tech City. The five acres of property in Hyderabad's Hi-Tech City worth Rs250 crore would be utilized for an international arbitration and mediation center. 65 legal professionals have requested the Centre to request an investigation into Ramana's participation in the case.

Devendra Fadnavis Asserts, 'Bilkis Bano Case Accused Released, But Wrong To Felicitate Them'
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on August 23 stated while the prisoners in the Bilkis Bano case were released following a Supreme Court judgment, it is improper if a person convicted of a crime is "felicitated." On August 15, the Gujarat government released the 11 life-sentenced prisoners. On August 23, SC consented to hear a plea challenging the remission given by the Gujarat government.

Muslim Women's Organisation Urges Supreme Court To Involve In Bilkis Bano case
Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), a Muslim women's rights organization, protested the remission of rapists in the Bilkis Bano case on August 19. On the suggestion of a state-sponsored commission, rapists of Bilkis Bano were awarded remission and released on Independence Day. "We want the Supreme Court to intervene in this matter. We were shocked to see them free," BMMA co-founder Noorjehan Safia Niaz remarked.

SC Sends Notice To Gujarat Government In Response To Asaram Bapu's Bail Application
Supreme Court has given the Gujarat government notice in response to a petition for bail filed by self-described godman Asaram Bapu, who cited his advanced age and failing health as reasons. A bench of Justices asked Gujarat for a response and scheduled the case for hearing on September 7. Asaram is facing rape and illegal detention accusations after one of his former Gujarat devotees accused him of sexual abuse.

SC Issues Bail To Varavara Rao In Bhima Koregaon Case For Medical Concerns
Varavara Rao, Telugu poet and activist who is charged in the Elgar Parishad case, has been given six-month medical bail by Supreme Court. The 82-year-old petitioner was under home arrest since 2018.
